Toxic Leadership Cultures

Have you ever worked in an organization or with an organization that has a toxic culture? Toxic cultures would be defined as those cultures that are destructive to the people that work in them.

Some Toxic Organizational Signs:

  • Bully tactics by leadership
  • Personal attacks
  • Absence of reward & recognition
  • Poor morale
  • High turnover rates
  • Heavy handed rules & regulations needed to drive behavior
  • Punishment & Penalties used to motivate workers
  • Poor safety record
  • High absenteeism
  • High stress levels
  • The best people depart organization
  • Dysfunctional relationships and behaviors
  • Unsustainable results that eventually lead to poor performance throughout organization

What is your personal experiences with organizations that either display toxic characteristics or are indeed toxic throughout?

How do you function successfully in such environments?

Can these cultures be influence and/or changed?
